What Is Contemporary Education?

Contemporary Education is, most fundamentally, a framework for teaching and learning.  Based on this framework, Contemporary Education offers curricula, institutes and a blog to reimagine education for the 21st century.  The Contemporary Education mission is to transform education to empower students to make meaningful decisions in their lives.  The vision is to transform schools into centers of meaningful reflection on how we respond to our human needs practically and theoretically, in the pursuit of healthier lives and more just, peaceful and sustainable societies.  There are 5C Principles of Contemporary Education: Connect, Care, Critique, Collaborate and Create.  The core values of Contemporary Education are: Health (Mental, Physical & Spiritual); Social Justice and Peace; and Environmental Sustainability.

The founder and primary contributor to Contemporary Education is Sarah O. Weiler, long-time educator with a M.A. in Global Education from the University of Illinois and a M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.  She is currently pursuing her PhD in Education at the Institute of Education at University College London.  In addition to these degrees, she has conducted research in association with the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC) in Brazil.

Sarah O. Weiler has been a school leader in the USA and Brazil.  Throughout her career she has taught preschool, elementary school, middle school and high school, as well as presented lectures at universities and international conferences.  Through her experience, she has worked in elite, private schools, as well as public institutions and NGOs.  Her main passion is teacher professional development, with the aim to revolutionize education and break the dominant teaching-and-learning paradigm that currently prevails.
